We were so happy to have been awarded the prize in the pumpkin carving competition. 

Well done to all the other classes on their pumpkins they were fantastic! Here is a picture of 'Skelly' the pumpkin. 

We would like to thank the parents and all involved for arranging this competition and for the prize of a 'pizza party'.

We had a visit from some very talented people this week, the teachers of the 'Music Generation' programme visited our class on Monday. 

They played three different pieces of music on their violins and violas. We were blown away by how talented they were. 

They were super. We would like to thank them for their visit. 

As Halloween is next week, the parents association of our school got a 'Pumpkin' for each class. (Thank you very much).

They decided to run a competition for the best 'Pumpkin', the winner will receive a fantastic prize at the end of this week. 

We had great fun carving our pumpkin, take a look at the photos we took during the process of carving the pumpkin.

This week in 5th Class A,

 there is World Cup fever and we are supporting the Irish Rugby Team.

Come on the boys in GREEN!

We decided we would show our support by creating our own Irish Rugby Jersey.  

 

We also thought that the rugby ball they are playing with at the World Cup could do with a a bit of a face-lift......

We wish the BOYS IN GREEN the very best of luck in their World Cup Quarter Final on Saturday. 

With Halloween just around the corner......things got a little SPOOKY  in our classroom. 

We welcomed a few new visitors to 5th class A, we are not sure if they are going to stay for the rest of the school year. 

Our guess is they won't, what do you think?

To welcome our new visitors we decided to decorate the classroom to make them feel at home. 

We love all the traditions of Halloween, dressing up, trick or treating and carving pumpkins (stay tuned to our Blog to see how our Pumpkin looks after we carve and decorate it).

 We decided that this year as well as carrying out the tradition of carving a pumpkin we would make our own pumpkins using orange card, leaves and black curly ribbon.

What we have been up to in 5th class A......

We have been very busy in 5th class over the past few weeks. Here is a snippet of what we have been up to. 

We participated in European Active Week, we all went down to the P.E and played some really fun games. We learned how to play some new games, we really liked the game 'Keep your flag', this game is a little like tag rugby where the catchers have to get both of your tags.

 Take a look at the pictures below, we got some great ACTION shots.  

As well as ' Keep your Flag' we played our favourite game of all,  DODGE BALL.

Next up in History we were learning about 'The Maya'.


We studied these Native Americans at school and we created interesting and informative projects.


We had great fun learning about these people, we learned that they were a forward thinking people who had an excellent knowledge of mathematics. We discovered that these people had a lunar (monthly) count of 29/ 30 days and an agricultural year of 365 days.
Something that we still use today.


We also used 'The Maya' people as a stimulus for our Art lesson during the week.

 We recreated the native 'Mayan' masks which played a central role in Maya culture. They were made for a variety of occasions and purposes. In fact, they were even used to decorate temples.
